Determining the most optimum dosage of biochar is important for future farming.
Recent publication at Journal Biochar (2025) by Hu et. al. compared the effect of various biochar application rate (from range 0, 16, 31, and 47 ton/ha).
Biochar application would enhance the organic matter content of the soil, which is one crucial indicator of the microbial activity. However, at higher application rate, like 47 ton/ha, shows negative impact for the microbial community.
The conclusion of the study is the medium dosage of biochar (~30 ton/ha) gives the optimum benefit for the soil.
